There has been a few incidents of oil pressure loss, the first alarm is the warning light illuminates on the gauge. Turn the engine off immediately!!!! Do not attemp to start the car in anyway. The sender units have been trouble and if this has failed still follow the procedure above, better safe than sorry, i strongly advise turn off the engine and get it inspected regardless if the engine sounds fine.
If the oil pressure has dropped off and brought the light on there could be some serious reasons for this, the most important point is to makes sure then engine is switched off as quickly as possible. Any oil pressure loss could result in excessive wear inside the engine, which is terminal and expensive.
The design of the oil pump/water pump means there are chambers beside each other that carry oil and water closely. What happens is the water corrodes the drive to the oil pump driven gear and eventually the drive fails, resulting in oil pressure loss. The correct repair is new pump, filters, oil change, new chains, new guides and sprockets. Also a replacement return valve on the cylinder head is important.
