It is fairly common for the remote central locking plip to stop working, if the batteries are fine, then the reason the remote plip has failed is simply synchronization. (On the assumption that remote hasn't actually failed, which is unusual). In other words, the vehicle and plip are not synchronized with each other, thus the car doesn't respond to the operation of the plip. As a point there are two batteries in each remote, they are CR1220.
To resynchronize the plip's to the car you must first meet two criteria. 1) to have both Plips (keys on the later cars) 2) One must operate the car
The procedure is very simple, holding both keys, one in one hand and one in the other, lock and unlock the key with the working remote (can be done by inserting the key in the barrel). The system will lock and unlock the car but after approximately ten functions the locks will stop working, next press the remote plip and you should see the indicators flash.(If you have put the key in the barrel to operate you will need to press the remote plip or the system will ignore the key from then on) Do not press either remote for about 5 seconds. Once this time period has passed you should be able to lock and unlock the car using either remote plip. Remember to try the boot release button as well!!!!
