Run flat tyres are by design made to help reduce the problem of punctures. They are becoming more common and generally of a harder nature than standard non run flat tyres. Apart from the harder ride the other point to consider is the effect of hitting potholes. As the tyre is naturally harder the shock that occurs when hitting a pothole is transferred through the tyre and into the wheel itself. We have found that this causes the wheel either to buckle excessively or crack, neither a particularly good propersition.

However all is not bad as we can generally arrange for wheels to be repaired and straightened, not all cases though. Generally speaking this can be achieved at a substantially cost saving. Each wheel has to be inspected and a decision made as to the damage.

As a point of legal standing about run flat tyres, it is illegal to fit run flat tyres to a car without TPMS, as it would be hard to feel a puncture and as such the affects of driving a car unknowingly could be fatal.

New  Maserati System Diagnosi Tester

We are lucky and proud to annouce we have purchased the new Maserati System Diagnosi Tester. This new tester was only made available to the independent market in May this year and we have become the first company to receive it, in Europe possibly, and activate it. Being laptop based and using blue tooth, this equipment now gives us the facility to carry extensive diagnostic tests on Maserati vehicles. The range is from old Quattroporte to current Gran Turismo and includes Ghibli, 3200GT and 4200GT and Gransport. With the function facility we can operate items independent of the vehicle controls, which aids repairs and diagnostics. This equipment also gets updated weekly and this is to ensure any programming and procedures to be adhered to are up to date.  Included in the kit is an oscilloscope that helps monitor faulty components, this displays a digital signal on the laptop for us to check and compare to a good signal. An oscilloscope will also be used to check clutch balance values, driveshaft balance and engine compressions.
